Oman's first female Olympic swimmer makes history

Muscat: Oman's Lara Al Yafei has made history by becoming the first Omani female swimmer to represent her country at an Olympics event.
The 16-year-old is currently representing Oman at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she has already made a mark by finishing third in the opening heat of the 50 m breast stroke competition.
The first girl to have been drafted into the national team, Lara finished third among eight competitors with a personal best of 37.35 seconds.
China's Muyan Zheng won the event with a time of 33.23 seconds. However, the event overall had 43 participants with Agne Selekaite of Lithuania coming in overall first at 31.55 seconds.
Al Yafei finished 36th overall, with only the top 16 making it through to the next round.
