Royal Oman Police units take part in Arab Gulf security drills

Dubai: Special forces from the Royal Oman Police (ROP) represented the Sultanate at the Second Arabian Gulf Security exercises being held in the United Arab Emirates. The preparation exercise, involving joint drills between Oman and four other members – the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain – of the Gulf Cooperation Council, is aimed at improving the coordination of the police forces of the five countries, should they need to take part in joint operations in future.
“Joint security exercises are taking place within the Second Arabian Gulf Security exercise, which takes place in the United Arab Emirates, where the Royal Oman Police will participate in the activities of the exercise that aim to coordinate, cooperate, and unify concepts and terms and exchange experiences to enhance joint security work,” said a statement from the ROP.
The exercises are taking place at the Dubai Police Academy in Umm Suqeim, and the UAE’s Ministry of the Interior has asked residents of the city who live in its vicinity to be aware while the drills are underway, owing to increased noise from the academy, due to live fire drills, and the use of vehicles such as helicopters.
“The Ministry of the Interior calls upon the public to be aware of the ongoing preparations for the second Arabian Gulf Security exercise,” said a statement from the Ministry’s security media department. “The exercise might be accompanied by loud noises as a result of the movement of helicopters and security training at the Dubai Police Academy in the Umm Suqeim area during the month of February, from 7 am to 1 pm and in the evening from 4 pm to 8 pm.”
Bahrain’s Ministry of the Interior also issued a statement that “Bahrain Police forces are continuing their participation in the second Arabian Gulf Security exercise in the UAE.”
Oman’s police contingent left on 6 February 6, with the ROP saying, “A Special Task Force of the police has left for the United Arab Emirates to participate in the joint tactical exercise of the security services, called the second Arab Gulf Security exercise, of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.”
