OCA welcomes cancer control board members

Muscat: In view of the upcoming World Cancer Congress in Oman (20-22 October 2020), UICC Board Members are meeting in Muscat this week (9-11 February). In addition to recurrent cancer control challenges, they are discussing the agenda and modalities of the Congress with the Oman Cancer Association (OCA) who will host the event.

“OCA is honored to host the World Cancer Congress in Oman”, said Dr. Wahid AlKharusi FRCS, President of the Oman Cancer Association and UICC Board Member. « It is important to show my colleagues from around world that Muscat’s commitment to health and hospitality is the perfect landscape for this event.

The World Cancer Congress is a recognised international conference which encourages effective knowledge transfer and best practices exchange amongst over 3,500 cancer control and public health experts from 130 countries.

It aims to strengthen the participants' action and impact on national, regional and international scales through a multidisciplinary programme that features the latest successful interventions in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care.

It will be the first time that the Congress is held in this region. Under the theme “The way forward”, it aims to highlight the need for the region and other parts of the world to work towards a future in which cancer loses much of its threat.

« Cancer does not discriminate, affecting not only patients and their families, but also entire populations due to the spread of risk factors over one’s lifetime », said Dr. Wahid AlKharusi FRCS. «Inter - regional understanding and collaboration is the best strategy in developing realistic international cancer control policies to not only effectively fight cancer but prevent it through advancements in early diagnosis and better pathways to what we all strive for: a cure. »

The Congress will take place in the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center. International and national partners such as the Oman National Oncology Centre are supporting the Congress.
