Suffering from Asthma? Take these precautions during winter

Muscat: Asthma patients should carefully monitor their health, especially with lower temperatures and increased cold being observed during these days in several governorates of the Sultanate.

A statement issued online by the Ministry of Health said: “Exposure to cold air in the winter is considered one of the irritants of asthma attacks with some patients, because it affects the nerve stimuli in the lungs and thus causes inflammation of the airway leading to narrowing of the bronchial tubes.”

The Ministry further said, "Therefore it is necessary to regularly follow up with specialist doctors, especially before the winter, to ensure that the medication doses are appropriate and to take medications regularly as prescribed for the time of necessity when feeling any symptoms.”

“Patient should also wear heavy clothes to warm the body well and when outside the home, it is preferred to wear a scarf on the mouth and nose to avoid cold air,” the Ministry added.
