Karate: Bodhidharma School of Martial Arts holds awards ceremony

MUSCAT: The Bodhidharma School of Martial Arts (Isshinriyu Karate) recently held a felicitation and a demonstration session at it premises under the guidance of it Karate Master Renshi G. Kumar, 5th Dan Black Belt from Okinawa Japan.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Guests S.A.S Naqvi, Sports Consultant, Oman Hockey Association and Sensei Srinivasan S., president Indian Social Club (Tamil Wing) and dignitaries from the Embassy of Japan.
Grand Master Kichiro Shimabaku, 10th Dan, Hanshi, President IWKA Okinawa, Japan presented the six students with Black Belts.
The students who were awarded a Black Belt by Grand Master had to go through some strenuous exercises like a 22km run, then perform all the katas bare hands as well as with weapons like - Tonfu, Bo, Nanchak etc.
The ceremony focused mainly on the skills of the students from various age groups who are aspiring to achieve a black belt and who have worked hard to reach the ultimate goal of Karate.
Speaking at the function Renshi G Kumar said: “He emphasises on the value of self discipline which forms an integral part of Karate during his classes”. “Karate is not just an art of fighting or sport it is a discipline and a way of life, he added.”
After the awards ceremony the students gave a fabulous demonstration Katas (both with weapons and bare hands) in front of the dignitaries by breaking marble slabs with their bare hands, and tiles with their foreheads etc, which is not just the indicator of physical strength and endurance but also the confidence with which a student gains with training.
