Oman Air suspends flights to Manila following volcanic activity

Muscat: Oman Air has halted flights to Manila in the Philippines until further notice, owing to volcanic activity over the city’s main airport, Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The move comes as Filipino airport authorities suspend all flights to and from the capital’s airport, owing to ash spewing from the Taal volcano in the nearby Batangas province.

A statement from Oman Air said, “The Philippine airport authority on Sunday suspended flights at Manila’s international airport after a volcano in nearby Batangas province spewed a giant plume of ash. In view of the above, Oman Air is on high alert and have suspended our services to Ninoy Aquino International Airport until further notice.

In the wake of this, Oman Air passengers who have booked flights to Manila and were expected to travel to the city between 12 and 22 January 2020 can change their dates of travel with no additional fees. However, the difference in ticket pricing will be borne by the guest.

“Alternatively, one reroute fee is waived to any other destination in the Oman Air network, subject to availability of seats in the ticketed reservation booking designator and any applicable additional fare is to be borne by the guest,” said Oman Air. “A refund is permitted as per ticket fare rules. For any subsequent date changes or re-routings, ticketed fare rules should be applied. No re-protection on to other carriers may be offered.”

As all flights travelling to and departing from Manila have been halted, airport authorities have asked passengers to check with their respective airlines over the status of their flights.

“Due to the eruption of the Taal Volcano, all flights, both arrival and departures are now on hold,” said a statement from the authorities at Ninoy Aquino International Airport. “Passengers are advised to coordinate with their respective airlines for flight updates.”
