Muscat: A town of a little more than 100,000 people in South India yesterday mourned the passing of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said in solidarity with those in Oman.

The town of Mayiladuthurai, located in Tamil Nadu, which is home to some 102,168 people, and about 281km from the state capital of Chennai, erected a hoarding marking the passing of HM Sultan Qaboos, with eulogies to him written in both English and the local language of Tamil.

“His Majesty is an eminent ruler, good human, able administrator, world peace lover,” said the eulogy on the billboard, which also featured a large picture of Sultan Qaboos. “We pray for his soul to rest in peace. Let his dream come true, through the millions of his lovers, citizens, family, friends and peacekeepers.”

The board honouring His Majesty Sultan Qaboos was set up by the family of Ashokan, Malathi, Swetha and Perunselvan, and shows just how far beyond boundaries he went when it came to impacting people’s lives.
