Travel Oman: Marneef cave in Dhofar attracts tourists

Dhofar is known for its numerous caves that attract adventure-loving tourists and those who admire nature. Dhofar’s mountains are riddled with caves that add to the rich ecology and archaeological attractions of the governorate.
Al Marneef cave in Al Mughsayl area is one of the most beautiful caves and a major attraction for tourists and residents. The cave, about 40 km from Salalah, overlooks the sea. In fact, Oman's caves are a part and parcel of the country’s natural and ecological heritage and tourist attractions.
“Marneef cave is in close proximity to Al Mughsayl Beach, which is one of the most preferred picnic spots for Salalah locals, residents and tourists,” said Oman’s Ministry of Tourism. “There are many benches besides the cave, where tourists can sit and take a view of the cave or Mughsayl Beach or the blowholes by their side. It’s definitely a nice area to view the surrounding landscape from.

“Mughsayl Beach is a favourite picnic spot with locals and visitors alike. Towards one end of the beach, near Marneef cave, visitors can witness the Mughsayl Blowholes gushing water high into the air during monsoon season,” added the Ministry.
Near Marneef cave is also the stunning white sand Al Fizayah beach, which according to the Ministry of Tourism, “is one of the best beaches in Oman. It’s a five-kilometre-long pristine white sand beach with clear water and a stunning landscape in the background. The journey to Salalah is incomplete without a trip to the white sand beaches of Mughsayl and the blowholes overlooking Marneef cave.”
