Tropical storm Luban: Relief shelter set up in Al Wusta

Muscat: The Al Jazir shelter in Al Wusta is now ready to receive citizens and residents that have been evacuated from their homes, the National Committee for Civil Defence (NCCD) has announced.

In a statement online, NCCD said, "In preparation for dealing with the tropical storm Luban, processing is complete for a shelter in Al Wusta governorate as a precautionary measure."

NCCD added that it had also implemented precautionary safety measures in tourist complexes and coastal hotel facilities in Salalah. "All guests were informed of the developments of the tropical situation at Marina Hawana Salalah, and were evacuated from yachts and boats in the marina."

The direct effects of the tropical storm are expected to hit on Saturday according to the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA).

"The direct impact, with heavy rainfall and occasionally thunder shower causing flash floods and gale winds of 30-40 knot, is predicted on Saturday for Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates. Also the sea state is expected to be rough with maximum wave heights ranging from 6 to 8 m," PACA said.
