Omanis in Dhofar and Musandam cast vote in municipal polls

Muscat: Voters of the Governorate of Dhofar and the Governorate of Musandam, residing in the Governorate of Muscat and its nearby wilayat, yesterday cast their votes to elect their representatives at the Municipal Councils (2nd term).
Members of the Main Committee and workers of the Election Committees in all wilayats also cast their votes.
Voters from the Governorate of Dhofar and the Governorate of Musandam rushed to the polling stations at Al Ula Basic Education School in the Wilayat of Bausher (for males) and Thuraya Al Busaidiyah Basic Education School for (for females). The vote casting is scheduled to continue up to 6.00 pm this evening.
Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior and members of the Main Committee for Elections accompanied by officials toured the two election centres at Al Ula Basic Education School in the Wilayat of Bausher (for males) and Thuraya Al Busaidiyah Basic Education School (for females) to ensure smooth running of electoral process.
Measures were taken to ensure that everything is in place for the smooth running and success of elections.
Eng. Khalid bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Head of the Main Committee for the Municipal Councils’ 2nd Term Elections said that elections went in a smooth way after the opening of the election centres at 8.00 am.
“The election centres inside the Sultanate for voters of the Governorate of Musandam and the Governorate of Dhofar, as well as at the Sultanate’s embassies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia (KSA), Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait, in addition to the Sultanate’s Commercial Representation Office at Dubai will continue receiving voters up to 6.00 pm,” he added.
As for the electronic system used in casting votes, Eng. Al Busaidi said that this is the third time to use the e-voting system, which has been proved to be easy for use and efficient. He pointed out that the sorting out of votes will be automatically and that the system has been used at Majlis Al Shura 5th term elections.
Nasser bin Sulaiman Al Sibani, Deputy Chairman of the Public Authority for Radio and Television (PART) Head of the Media Committee for Municipal Council Elections hailed the efforts of different printed, audio and visual media means, as well as Oman News Agency (ONA), which cover this important national event.
He also praised the media coverage at the standardised election centres in Muscat and Salalah, as well as at the Sultanate’s embassies in UAE, KSA, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait, in addition to the Sultanate’s Commercial Representation Office at Dubai.
Workers at the election committees and the sub-committees in different wilayats cast their votes at the offices of walis from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm to elect the municipal council representatives. This is due to the fact that they will be unable to cast their votes on the election date scheduled on December 25 as they will be doing their work at the election centres.
The heads of the municipal councils said that the voting process went on smoothly; thanks to the use of modern technology, which showed the pictures of the candidates to voters.
