Hepatitis A vaccine in routine schedule for children in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Health, represented by Communicable Disease Control Department at the Directorate General of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate organised a workshop to train the personnel engaged with the programme on the new changes to child vaccination schedule following the approval of the Ministry of Health for inclusion of the vaccine of “Hepatitis A” in the routine vaccination schedule of children effective from February 2020.
The workshop aimed to train the participants on the use and the way to keep the vaccine and registration of vaccination in the child health card and in the child health register.
The workshop was attended by Dr. Salim Said Habash Al Kathiri, Director of Communicable Disease Control Department and 50 participants representing the directors of the departments of the Directorate General of Health Services, supervisors on vaccination programme and vaccination clinics at the healthcare institutions in the various wilayats of Dhofar Governorate.
The first dose of “Hepatitis A” vaccine will be given to the child at the age of 13 months.
It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Health has maintained high coverage for all approved vaccines at 99 per cent due to the awareness of the members of the society with the significance of timely vaccination of children and for the constructive role of the health cadre in spreading awareness among the community.
