Heavy rains disrupt flights from Dubai

Muscat: Passengers travelling to catch flights from Dubai’s airports are being asked to leave for their flights early, and check whether their flights are still on schedule, after heavy rain disrupted flight operations to and from the city.

Although flight timings were erratic due to poor weather, airport management at both Dubai International Airport and Dubai World Central had done their best to keep delays to a minimum.

A statement from Dubai Airports, the organisation that manages Dubai’s airports, said, “DXB (Dubai International Airport) is experiencing operational disruption due to heavy rains this morning. The safety & comfort of our passengers is priority & we are working with partners to return to full operation ASAP. Please check for flight information on http://dubaiairports.ae or airline websites.”

A follow-up announcement added: “Weather advisory update: Flights are now arriving and departing with minimal disruption, however, due to flooding on the roads, we urge customers departing from DXB today to allow for maximum additional time to get to the airport.”

In this context, a statement from Dubai Police said, “Due to the water logging on Airport Road, we advise passengers to reach the airport three hours before the scheduled departure of their flights.”
