Taking a TV from Oman for your family back home? Airlines will now let you carry for free

Muscat: With expats in Oman travelling to their home countries to meet their families this December, airlines are allowing them to take as part of their luggage a TV that they may have purchased for their loved ones, at no extra cost.

Passengers who have purchased a TV and are taking it with them as a gift for their families will now only need to pay the Oman Airports handling charge of OMR 4 when the television is included as part of their check-in baggage.

One of the airlines offering this deal is Sri Lankan Airlines. Passengers travelling to Sri Lanka from Muscat can carry an LED or LCD TV measuring up to 55 inches for free, as those who are travelling on Sri Lankan Airlines to India.

Passengers who have planned travel to Dhaka can carry an LCD TVs measuring up to 43 inches at no extra charge, while those who carry TVs between 44 and 55 inches have to pay an extra charge of OMR 10. The maximum dimensions of the TV cannot exceed 55 inches in length.

“The weight of the TV will be included in the free baggage allowance,” said a statement from Sri Lankan Airlines. “For any additional baggage, applicable excess baggage charges will apply. An indemnity form must also be filled at the airport.”
