Muscat: Heavy to moderate rain fell on different parts of Oman, including Muscat on Sunday, according to Oman Meteorology Department. “We are expecting some rains on Monday and Tuesday also,” an official from the department said.

Officials said Ibri in Al Dhahirah governorate received the highest rainfall amounting to 126mm while Rustaq received 68mm of rainfall followed by Barka at 65mm until 1pm on Sunday. Muscat, however, received only 4mm of rainfall.
The other areas which received rain include Al Rustaq, Al Buraimi, Yanqul, Al Mudhaibi, Liwa, Al Senainah, Sohar, Dhank, Al Ashkarah, Ibar, Qalhat, Al Khaboura, Saham, Al Suwaiq, Nizwa, Sur and Izki.

Several people were rescued from their stranded vehicles in wadis as heavy rains lashed parts of Oman on Sunday.
The Royal Oman Police (ROP) said several people were rescued from Al Dahirah governorate. In Rustaq, two people were rescued by an ROP team. Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) official has called on everyone to be cautious and not take risk of crossing the wadis.

As part of safety efforts, Al Dakhiliyah Police Command added more forces on the roads leading to wadis on Sunday. Aircraft of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) were also pressed into action to rescue the stranded people.
A statement issued by the ROP said: “The police aircraft carried out a search and rescue operation for a person stranded in Ghafer valley in Al Rustaq in the Al Batinah Governorate.” Following heavy rainfall, the Ministry of Education suspended evening classes in schools, except for Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates.
The Sultanate will be affected by a trough of low pressure until December 10 with isolated instances of rain along with hail, winds and flash floods affecting many governorates of Oman.
