Big jump in tourists visiting Jabal Akhdar in six months

Muscat: Jabal Akhdar has registered a significant rise in the number of tourist arrivals in the January to June period of 2019.
The total number of tourists reaching Jabal Akhdar between January and June 2019 stood at 84,539. The number for June was 28,725. It was a significant increase over 27,161 of the same period last year.
Known for its farms, trees, fruits, wadis and much more, the green mountain, or Jabal Akhdar, is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the Sultatane.
It is situated in wilayat Nizwa, Al Dakhiliyah governorate and is part of the Al Hajar mountain range.
In the year 2018, the total number of tourists who reached Jabal Akhdar was 226,487.
The number of Omani tourists in June 2019 was 15,104. In the same period the number of tourists from Gulf countries reached 1,458, Arabs 1,397 and other foreigners 10,766.
Khaleel Al Toobi, director of tourism in Al Dakhiliyah governorate, said that Jabal Akhdar has seen huge growth in tourist arrivals, particularly of Europeans.
Speaking about the facilities for tourists, Marhoon bin Saeed Al Mahrouqi, a tourist guide at the Tourism Services Centre, pointed out that Centre is located at the beginning of the mountain road and provides tourists with relevant information.
The centre provides maps of Jabal Al Akhdar as well as the Sultanate in general, he said.
It also provides information brochures that highlight tourist places and public services available there, he added.
