Oman's Shura Council meets laid-off citizens

Muscat: With an increase in the number of citizens and expatriates being laid-off from their jobs in the past few months, the Ministry of Manpower reported that 2,200 citizens were asked to leave their jobs during 2019.

Citizens have expressed their annoyance and resentment on social media because of the increased layoffs in recent times.

A statement issued on the topic by the Shura Council said: “In confirmation of a follow-up by the Council to various societal issues, His Excellency Sheikh Khaled Al Ma’wali, Chairman of the Shura Council, and a number of members, met with a number of laid-off citizens from some private sector companies.”

“The meeting stressed the importance of solutions, near and far-reaching, in order to avoid economic and social damage to these citizens.”
