Sultan Qaboos University faculty bags award for child health nursing

Muscat: Dr. Erna Judith Roach, Assistant Professor at the Department of Maternity and Child Health, College of Nursing, Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), received an Award for Excellence in Child Health Nursing from the Venus International Foundation on September 29, 2018, during the 1st Annual Healthcare Meet held at Le Royal Meridian, Chennai, India.
The award was given in recognition of her performance, which is “over and above” the standard expected in the advancement of health care, patient safety and quality, which ultimately improved people’s lives.
Roach joined the College of Nursing, SQU, in April 2014 as Assistant Professor in the Maternal and Child Health Department.
She served as Assistant Dean for Post Graduate Studies and Research from September 2014 to August 2017 in the College of Nursing, SQU. During her term, she was instrumental in commencing the first Master of Science in nursing programme at the College of Nursing, SQU, which is also the first master’s programme in nursing in the Sultanate. She was also the co-chair of the College Accreditation Committee when the college was accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, USA.
Roach’s research interests are in promoting the health of pregnant women, children, and aging populations; infection control and patient safety; and in developing and testing innovative teaching learning strategies. She is a co-principal investigator on a few funded research projects at the College of Nursing, SQU.
