More than 2,200 Omanis laid off in 2019

Muscat: More than 2,200 Omani citizens were laid off from 18 companies in the Sultanate of Oman in 2019, according to the Ministry of Manpower.

Salem bin Nasser Al Hadhrami, the ministry’s director general of planning and development, said, “More than 2,200 citizens were laid off this year, from 18 main companies. Most of them were in the construction sector due to losses incurred by some of the companies.”

“We know that this will have an adverse impact on the economy and society has been affected by the layoffs, which were by several companies,” he added. “The layoffs this year were from several companies working in the construction sector for the development of infrastructure, as well as in the industrial sector and the trade and automotive sectors.”
