Storm update: Luban to develop into cyclone within 24 hours

Muscat: Tropical Storm Luban is likely to deepen into a Category 1 Tropical Cyclone within the next 24 hours, the Public Authority of Civil Aviation said in a report titled 'Notice 1'.
PACA's report said, "The latest weather charts and satellite images of the National Multi-Hazard and Early Warning Centre indicate the concentration of the tropical storm Luban in the middle of the Arabian Sea around 830 km away from Salalah city, with surface wind speeds of 50 to 55 knots (93 to 102 kmph).
"The tropical storm continues to move west by northwest towards Dhofar governorate coast and Yemen, with the tropical storm likely to deepen into a tropical cyclone of the first degree within the next 24 hours."
Prediction charts also showed the possibility of indirect impacts of the storm on the governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta starting from Wednesday, October 10, 2018, with isolated rain and rising sea waves with maximum heights between 4 and 6 metres.
By Friday evening, Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates are expected to be affected by heavy rain, and high winds, with sea waves reaching maximum heights of 6 to 8 metres.
The Authority called on the public to take precautions and not risk crossing valleys, and to move away from low-lying places. It also warned people to not enter into the sea during this period and to follow up weather reports issued by the Authority.
