Diabetes on the rise in Oman

Muscat: The number of people diagnosed with diabetes has increased by 6 per cent in the Sultanate in 2018, the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) said.

The latest statistics revealed by the NCSI show that the total number of new cases diagnosed increased in 2018 compared to the year before. In 2018, 6,792 cases of diabetes were registered."

Within the framework of diabetes, the international training course in the field of diabetes treatment, organized by the European Gulf Group for the Study of Diabetes, started on Thursday evening in Oman with the support of the Lilly Diabetes Company and in coordination with the Department of Non-Communicable Diseases of the Directorate General of Primary Health Care at the Ministry of Health, in the presence of 250 participants.

The ministry said in a statement, "The course aims to inform health workers at diabetes clinics about the most important developments as well as complications in the field of diabetes treatment."
