Oman National Day: A number of road projects opened to traffic

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport inaugurated many projects, including the 27km portion of Adam-Haima-Thumrait dual carriageway on the occasion of the Sultanate’s 49th National Day.
This portion adds up to the 93km portion of the first part that opened earlier this year.
With this, the ministry has completed the first and second parts of the 240km project, the Ministry of Transport has said.
A statement by the Ministry of Transportation read, “This portion included the construction of two-lane roads on each side where each lane is 3.74m wide, optimised with the construction of 3m wide external shoulders, 1.5m internal shoulders and 20-24m wide median strip.”

“Traffic safety measures have been established on the road, such as road floor paintings, traffic signboards, concrete barriers, iron fences and iron wire fence in crawling sands areas,” the Ministry added.
In addition to that, the Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (SEZAD) celebrated the occasion at the Authority’s headquarters in Muscat and witnessed the opening of various roads in the Wilayat of Duqm.
It saw the opening of Road No. 1 and its related projects to traffic, while Road No. 5, which has reached its final stages, will be opened in the coming days.
Both the Roads 1 and 5 are key projects in SEZAD as they link the Port of Duqm with the Duqm Refinery and many other strategic projects, which are being implemented in the heavy and middle industrial zones.
“Road No. 1 connects the Port of Duqm and Dry Dock with the Sultan Said bin Sultan Road and makes it easier for those coming from Duqm downtown and from Muscat via Sinaw to access the port’s projects. Hence, this road becomes the third entrance leading to the Port of Duqm and the Dry Dock.
“Road No. 5 starts at the existing intersection connecting roads 1 and 6 and ends at the berth of liquid and bulk materials at the Port of Duqm.”
The length of this road is about 3.3 km, while the length of road 1 is about 3.93 km, with both roads are duals consisting of two lanes in each direction,” officials at SEZAD said.
They added that the development agreement of Roads 1 and 5, which was signed in February 2018, includes the construction of two 6.7 km service roads, installation of new LED lighting, implementation of soil improvement work and construction of water drainage channels.
During the event, His Excellency Yahya bin Said Al Jabri, Chairman of SEZAD, expressed heartfelt congratulations to the staff on this joyous occasion and called on all to exert more efforts and dedication to achieve the objectives of establishing SEZAD. In his address, Al Jabri affirmed that the Sultanate witnessed numerous achievements at various spheres over the past decades of the blessed Omani Renaissance.
