Internet updates to hit service today: TRA

Muscat: Internet services will be affected negatively on Thursday, Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced.

They added that the reason for the slowing down of, or in some cases total loss of internet facility would be due to updates being added to the server, which is to be done under the supervision of an international body.

The TRA disclosed the information in an official statement.

“The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) would like to draw the kind attention of all users of the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) that some updates will be made to the DNS servers on October 11, 2018. This is globally planned by the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), an international organisation that is globally dedicated to keeping the internet environment secure and stable.

“Due to these updates, some internet services might be affected, hence the TRA has been coordinating with ISPs to make sure that their systems can handle the automated update process and to stress the need to observe the ICANN procedures on the matter. In cases where the users have difficulty accessing the internet or websites, they are advised to contact their service provider,” an official TRA statement read.
