Expats arrested for carrying out unlicensed commercial activities in Oman

Muscat: Authorities have conducted three joint raids at the homes of expats who were using their residence to carry out unlicensed commercial activities, Muscat Municipality has announced.

The raids were organised after authorities received complaints from citizens in Seeb. However, no information on the number of expats arrested was made available.

In a statement online, Muscat Municipality said, “In response to the reports from citizens, Muscat Municipality in Seeb in coordination with the Royal Oman Police and the Public Prosecution, raided three houses in the Wilayat of Seeb. The houses were being used by expatriate workers for the purpose of living, in addition to practicing unlicensed activities such as, sewing clothes, selling vegetables, and gold formation (making jewellery).”

Authorities added that the accused were sent to complete other legal proceedings.
