Opal oil and gas conference opens

MUSCAT: The third oil and gas conference organised by the Oman Society for Petroleum Services (Opal) in cooperation with Oman Expo and the accompanying exhibition began on Monday at Oman Convention and Exhibition Center.

The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Ahmed bin Hassan Al Theeb, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, who told reporters that the conference sheds light on the specialised companies in the fields of oil and gas and reviews modern and advanced technologies and innovation in these areas in order to develop and strengthen the sector in the Sultanate.

Modern technologies
Dr Amer bin Awadh Al Rawas, Chairman of Opal said that the conference will discuss over two days the most important modern technologies introduced in the discovery and extraction of oil from the deep sea and introducing the renewable energy technologies.

He pointed out that there is a gradual transition from oil and gas to renewable energy as energy is discussed for the first time at this conference.

Marine solutions
The conference will discuss a number of topics including technology, marine solutions, local value added, human resources and training.

The conference will also include a number of presentations and working papers on the impact of value added tax (VAT) on oil and gas, wasting energy opportunities, concentrated solar energy, digitisation in oil and gas, accident investigation, behavior-based safety, and future of the energy.
