PIO Card holders in Oman have until this date to get printed documents

Muscat: Persons of Indian Origin in Oman who hold handwritten PIO Cards issued by the Government of India will need to get them changed to printed ones before 31 March 2020.

The Embassy of India in Oman, acting under orders from the Bureau of Immigration, will only accept these cards until 31 March next year, after which those who have handwritten PIO cards will need to apply for visas to visit India.

A statement from the Indian embassy said, “The Bureau of Immigration (BOI) will accept PIO Cards as valid travel documents until 31st March 2020, as the last and final opportunity. This extension of the timeline is subject to the condition that if in the meantime any deadline has been notified by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), thereby making handwritten PIO Cards invalid, then PIO cardholders may have to obtain appropriate visas from Indian missions/posts.”
