Oman's health ministry clarifies stand on child

Muscat: The Ministry of Health has issued a statement on the claim of the father of the child Yamen bin Humaid Al-Muzaini, regarding the provision of previous treatment for his son.

The Ministry said: “A thorough study of the case of the child Yamen bin Humaid Al Muzaini was made and reference was made to the background of the subject in hospitals that have treated the child (Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Sohar Hospital, Royal Hospital). The optimal situation of the child, according to the opinion of professors and consultants who follow his health is to continue taking the drug (Factor 8 (VIII) - long acting) intravenously and at dose (750) units twice a week in Sohar Hospital for several reasons.”

The Ministry explained that the child responded to this medicine well and without previous complications in addition to the hospital's proximity to the child's residence, which reduces his risk of danger.

The Ministry further said that the company is planning to manufacture another drug that was previously used by the child, knowing that the Ministry of Health provides the drug (factor 8 long-acting) in all its hospitals.

The health minister met with the child Yamen and his parents during the last period and explained to them the status of the most appropriate treatment for the child's situation according to the vision of the consultants and therapists supervising the case, the Ministry said.

Factor 8 (VIII) is a medication used to treat and prevent bleeding in people with Hemophilia A and other causes of low factor VIII. Certain preparations may also be used in those with von Willebrand's disease. It is given by slow injection into a vein.
