Road rules: Parking in unauthorised spots could land you with hefty fines in Oman

Muscat: Did you know that you could face heavy fines if you parked your vehicle or left it unattended in unauthorised places in Oman?

The Royal Oman Police has listed the parking violations both Omani and expat motorists are sure to face if they park their vehicles in areas they are not supposed to.

Those who park in areas that are reserved for disabled or handicapped people could face fines of OMR 50, while those who park in spots that have been designated for ambulances and other emergency service vehicles will be slapped a fine of OMR 35.

Similarly, should you park on the footpath, an area that has been created to provide easy pedestrian movement and access, you are liable to face a fine of OMR 15, while parking on the right side of the road - the yellow emergency lane - will see motorists face penalties of OMR 35.

This last case does not apply should your vehicle actually suffer an emergency on the road.
