Muscat: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan became the sixth most popular world leader after his following on microblogging site Twitter crossed the 10.5 million mark.

Khan’s popularity skyrocketed after his historic speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September where he highlighted the issues faced by people living in Kashmir.

Praise from all quarters — not just by his countrymen — was heaped on the leader after his speech.

In addition to that, according to the Government of Pakistan, in September PM Khan took the second spot on Google Trends under the “most searched UNGA leaders”.

“According to Google trends volume index during the forum of UNGA, Prime Minister Imran Khan ranked 'The Second Most searched UNGA Leader on Google',” the Government of Pakistan wrote on their official Twitter account.

Currently, US President Donald Trump ranks first with 65.3 million followers, India's Narendra Modi on second with 50.6 million, and Pope Francis at a distant second with 18.1 million followers.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey comes fourth with 14.1 million followers, Indonesia President Joko Widodo fifth at 12.2 million, and the sixth is PM Imran Khan at 10.5 million.
