New hair trends on the horizon

Whether you’re looking for a dramatic new look or just a tweak to freshen up your hairstyle, It’s time for some new cuts and styles.

Flirty fringes to low-maintenance bangs: The traditional fringes have taken a new turn. They’ve gone really short. To be honest, that’s good news as it allows it more time to grow out. And when you’ve reached that uncomfortable length when you don’t know how to style them anymore, say hello to shaggy, low-maintenance bangs. They’re wispy, flirty and playful — just what you need if you want to grow them out.

Clean centre: Simply part your hair down the centre with a thin comb and let your hair fall equally on both sides. Suitable for long or short hair, it works especially well if your hair is naturally straight.

Messy top-knot: It’s a classic that’s never going out of style. If you’re in a rush or your hairstylist bailed on you (or you plain just don’t have the skills or patience) a messy top-knot will never let you down.

Voluminous pixie cut: Short pixie cuts had their time under the spotlight. Now it’s time to grow them out, but just a little. We predict a lot of celebs are going to go chop-chop to sport the new variation of the pixie cut. The long pixie cut lets stylists add more volume to the hair with shags, curls and bangs.

The variations of bob: Though the angled-bob is the current biggest trend, you don’t have to necessarily sport the same. If you’ve got a bob-cut you’re in line with the trends, period! Shaggy, feathered or blunt (and we’re talking geometric lines here), there is a bob that is perfectly suited for you, we promise.

Finger waves: Taking waves to a new level, try this retro style for something different. It works great for short hair. Longer locks might be more time-consuming so stick to working closer to the roots only for longer hair.

Cheerleader ponytail: Simply scoop all your hair up into a high ponytail. If your hair tends to go flat you can tease the front to create a slight puff. It is a clean and easy updo, keeps hair off the face, and is a perfect hairstyle to cover a bad hair day.

Accessorise it: If you’re one of those who are a little shy to experiment, accessorise with a bold headband, some quirky barrettes or a pretty ribbon. It’s just like dresses — when you want to keep it simple, the best way to go about it is to throw on some accessories to fancy it up. Oh, did we forget?! Flowers make beautiful accessories too (think dreamy, surreal and retro) and Dolce and Gabbana proudly flaunted them on their catwalk. Real or artificial, you can style these in your own way.
