Royal Oman Police arrests seven for attempting to smuggle narcotics

Muscat: An attempt to smuggle close to three tonnes of drugs was foiled by the Royal Oman Police (ROP), leading to the arrest of three expats.

Seven expats were attempting to smuggle the drugs out of Oman, off the coast of South Al Sharqiyah, when ROP managed to break up their operation and arrest the accused.

An official from the ROP said: "The Royal Oman Police worked together with citizens to foil an attempt to smuggle close to three tonnes of hashish through Al Ashkhara beach in South Al Sharqiyah, which led to the ROP arresting seven expats."

According to ROP official, the expats had already managed to load the drugs into crates onto a boat when the ROP made the discovery.

He said, "They had hid the drugs inside of boxes and then put them onto one of the boats that was on the beach, with the goal of trying to get the drugs out of Oman.

"Legal proceedings have been carried out and the all illegal materials have been seized."

According to the ROP official, the police welcomes cooperation from citizens and residents in order to combat drug use.

"The ROP invites all citizens and residents to cooperate in order to combat drugs and inform police offers of any information that can help expose drug smugglers and suppliers by calling the hotline 1444 or heading to the nearest police station to make their report,” he said.
