SCP reviews performance of diversification sectors

Muscat: The Supreme Council for Planning (SCP) has held its third meeting for 2019, chaired by H.E. Dr. Ali Al Sunaidi, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Deputy Chair of SCP, and attended by their Excellencies the SCP members.

The council’s meeting revealed that Oman’s performance has been stable in four of the five economic diversification sectors being targeted by the Ninth Five-Year Development Plan (2016-2020), while the one sector had improved.

A statement by the SCP read: “The council reviewed Oman’s economic performance during the first quarter of 2019 in relation to the first quarter of 2018. The GDP of the manufacture, logistics, tourism, and mining sectors have been stable in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the first quarter of 2018, while the performance of the fisheries sector has improved.”

The council also reviewed tourism development plans in Oman.

“The council discussed the development plans in some of Oman’s governorates, especially the tourism sector, as part of the national strategy for tourism development and the tourism plans for Oman’s governorates,” the statement added.

“The council also reviewed a report for following up strategic projects and major development projects, how to deal with the administrative and financial challenges that are facing these as well as financing alternatives in the coming period.”
