Muscat: Indian schools in Oman opened online registrations for an inter-school science programme on Monday.
The event, dubbed inter-school event STAI (Science, Technology and Innovation) is open to students of all Indian schools and will take place on November 23 and 24 in Indian School Muscat (ISM).
The academic cell of the ISM Management Committee along with Principal Dr Rajeev Kumar Chauhan launched the website for registration at ISM under the patronage of the Board of Directors.
“It is an innovative enterprise that encourages students to pursue their interests in science and other associated fields. This is the start of a mega inter-school event on Science, Technology and Innovation which will culminate as a two-day programme on November 23 and 24 at ISM with the tagline Dream-Create-Inspire,” an official statement by ISM read.
“It upholds the objective of providing a platform and showcasing the talents of young minds. They are inspired to explore their passion and showcase their innovative ideas, allowing them to take part in the discovery of the next generation scientific innovators,” it added.
Three categories in place
The contest is open to students from standard VI to XII and is divided into three categories.
“This mega event consists of three categories: Ignitors for Classes VI to VIII; Innovators –for Classes IX and X and Inventors for Classes XI and XII. The three categories are further divided into 25 programmes for students and one programme for teachers of all Indian Schools. In addition to these programmes, concept rooms, games rooms, planetarium are also envisioned for the event,” the statement said.
“It has always been the core focus of ISM to provide an appropriate environment for the learners of all categories with various talents and skills. The initiative is in line with the broader vision of the Board of Directors aiming to implement holistic education across all Indian schools in Oman,” it added.
“It is not a contest, per se, but we might reward the students with the five best projects. Students’ attitudes on sciences are undergoing a transformation and they are engaged in research with real importance. This is a well-defined attempt at tapping students’ potential and instilling in our children, a life-long appreciation towards STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics),” said Ajay Kumar J, President, School Management Committee, ISM.
Rajeev Kumar Chauhan, principal, ISM, said, “This event will help children adapt to an ever-changing scientific world, where artificial intelligence will play an increasingly significant role.”
Laboratory research
