Pakistani short film wins international award

Muscat: A proud moment for Pakistani cinema across the globe as a Pakistani short film bags an international award at the recently held Venice Film Festival (VFF).

The short film, ‘Darling’, portrays the story of a real trans actor from Lahore, Pakistan.

The receipt of the accolade was announced by Pakistan’s Chairman Central Film Censor Board, Danyal Gilani, via his official Twitter account.

“Pakistani short film ‘Darling’ wins an award at the Venice Film Festival. Directed by Saim Sadiq ‘Darling’ was selected as the Best Short Film!,” Gilani wrote.

Words of appreciation started pouring in, as this is the first time a Pakistani movie has bagged an award at VFF.

“My dear, talented friend Saim Sadiq wins ‘best short film’ for ‘Darling’ at the VFF. The first Pakistani to ever be nominated or win at the VFF. Feeling so proud and happy right now!!!,” Pakistani singer and actor, Meesha Shafi, said on Twitter.

Pakistan’s young movie maker, Sadiq, won accolades for another short film - ‘Nice Talking To You’ which he made last year and for which he won the Best Director Award at the Columbia University Film Festival.
