Guwahati: The Omani National Football team was accorded a warm welcome on their arrival in India, where are to play India for the 2022 World Cup qualifier.
The Omani squad will face-off against their Indian counterparts in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifier Group E game on Thursday, 5 September.
The match kicks off India's FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign, and also the joint-qualification process for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023.
Oman remain undefeated against India in competitive matches.
Even Indian head coach Igor Stimac conceded that Oman will start as favourites in their World Cup qualifiers campaign opener.
"Realistically, Qatar and Oman are the favourites in our group. We had never won an official match against either of them. So it's not going to be easy at all,” he said.
The last meeting between the two teams ended in a goal-less draw in a friendly game in December last year in the run-up to 2019's Asian Cup.
Besides Qatar, Oman and India, the other teams in Group E are Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
