Careem inks pact with Marhaba for taxi services in Muscat

Muscat: The Middle East ride-hailing firm, Careem, officially launched its services in Muscat on Monday, while forming a partnership agreement with Oman’s first private taxi service, Marhaba.
Under the agreement, Careem will provide the app, while Marhaba will take care of the taxi services, according to the executive vice president of Marhaba Taxi.

“All the Careem users can avail of the same services when they arrive in Muscat while using the same application they have installed in their phones, and we will make sure to deliver the services to them,” said Ayman Al Marashdeh, Executive Vice President of Marhaba Taxi.
He added that the trips booked through the app would be charged the same fare as regular taxis, starting from OMR1.25, and the app would also provide an estimate fare for the destination registered while making the booking.
Moreover, the aim of the partnership is not only to provide quality services but to create more jobs for the locals residing in the country.
“Our plan is to grow the business and serve more people with the help of the partnership we established today with Careem. We are very positive that they are going to enjoy doing business in Oman, as it is an extremely pleasant country. Having said that, we will also be creating more jobs for Omanis and it will be within the rules and regulations stipulated in the country,” Marashdeh said.
Talking to the Times of Oman, Khaled Nuseibeh, General Manager of Careem UAE, said that the main objective was indeed to create more jobs, besides providing convenience and hi-end services to customers.
“We have managed to create one million jobs in the 14 countries we are in today in the span of six years, and will be doing the same for Omani nationals. We will work together to be an active part in having an extremely positive social impact on the economy,” Nuseibeh said.
He added that the official launch was just the start and that they planned to expand to more cities across Oman.
