Seven killed in mid-air collision over Inca

Mallorca: Seven people were killed when a helicopter collided with an ultralight plane mid-air over the Spanish island of Mallorca on Sunday. A German family of four were among the seven killed.

The debris of the crash fell on farmland near Inca, located to the North of the popular tourist island. The German family included a couple and their two children.

According to local officials, the ultralight plane was being flown by a Spanish national along with a friend.

Local authorities said that the accident occurred around 1.35 pm on Sunday and the cause is not clear yet. "At 1335 hours today there has been an air accident between a helicopter and an ultra lightweight in Inca, Costitx's old road," the Government of Balearic Islands official Twitter account said.

Meanwhile, three days of mourning was announced to remember those who lost their lives by President of the Government of Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol. Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, expressed his 'solidarity and sympathies' for the families of the victims in a tweet.

The helicopter was a Bell 206 L3 LongRanger operated by Rotorflug, a company which operates flights for tourists visiting the island.
