PV Sindhu wins World Badminton Championship, dedicates medal to mother

Basel: Indian badminton player PV Sindhu beat Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 21-7, 21-7 to win the finals of the World Badminton Championship and win her first gold medal.

While winning her first gold would indeed be special, what makes it even more so is that she has won it on her mother’s birthday, and has decided to dedicate her special day to her mum.

To get to the final, PV Sindhu beat China’s Chen Yufei, overcoming her 21-7, 21-14 to once again create history by reaching the final of the BWF World Championships for the third consecutive time. Her accomplishment on reaching the final had been hailed by Kiren Rijiju, the Indian government’s Minister of State of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

“PV Sindhu beats Chen Yu Fei of China 21-7, 21-14 to create history by reaching the final of the BWF World Championships 2019 for the 3rd consecutive time,” Rijiju said.

Sports author Boria Majumdar added, “Will we now say world champion PV Sindhu. It may well be the way she is playing!! More power to her.”

Viren Rasquinha, the former captain of the Indian national hockey team, added, “What a brilliant win by PV Sindhu. Haven’t seen her play so well since Rio 2016. Great fightback after a disappointing first game. Also Sindhu is looking so fit.”
