The Royal Oman Police has responded to rumours about a new type of vehicle registration number plate that is purportedly thinner and has fewer digits than traditional plates.

According to the ROP, the use of these plates is prohibited within Oman since they are given to people traveling to non-Arab countries.

"In relation to what has been in circulation on social media about a new type of vehicle registration plate being issued, the Directorate General of Traffic would like to explain that these are a type of temporary plate that has been issued by the ROP for years.” - Royal Oman Police

Although these plates have been in issue, they are not for use in Oman at all, but are used to identify Omani vehicles outside of Oman.
