Muscat: A road linking wilayat Mahdah in Al Buraimi and wilayat Shinas in Al Batinah is now open for traffic, the Ministry of Transport and Communications announced on Monday.
In a statement online, the ministry said : "The opening of the road will reduce the distance between Al Buraimi and Al Batinah and ease travel between these areas which are busy with tourist sites."
"The Alfie-Alwajaj road starts from Alwajaj area in the wilayat of Shinas in Al Batinah North Governorate and ends in the town of Alfie in the Wilayat of Mahdah in Al Buraimi governorate, with a length of 9 kilometres," MOTC added.
The road is single lane on both sides, with asphalt external shoulders. It also includes the establishment of seven box culverts for rain floodwater (wadi) drainage.
The design gave top priority for traffic safety by installing signboards and road markings.
The road will ease traffic in between Buraimi and Al- Batinah North governorates as well as revitalizing tourism sites along the road, specifically Al-Fai and Tameet villages.
