Update: Rescued 10-year-old passes away in Oman

Muscat: The 10-year-old child who was rescued by people in Nizwa yesterday has passed away in hospital.

An official from the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance told Times of Oman: "After the child was taken out from the water and to the hospital, the doctor at the hospital pronounced him dead shortly after arrival."

PACDA had received a report about a child drowning in Wadi Al Muaidin in Nizwa, and had responded immediately, managing to snatch the child out of the water and take him to the nearest hospital. The official has confirmed that the child is Omani.

In a statement yesterday, PACDA had said: "Following the announcement of the drowning of a 10-year-old in Nizwa, when PACDA officials arrived at the scene, we learned that the child was still alive. Those on site in the area were able to pull him out.

"He was immediately rushed to the hospital in critical condition," the statement added.
