Oman's Haj pilgrims safe after cover falls

Muscat: No one from Oman's Haj pilgrimage groups were injured when a cover meant to shelter them from the sun and rain came crashing down to the floor on Saturday, according to the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs.

A statement by the ministry read: "Sultan bin Said Al Hinai, the head of Oman's pilgimage delegation, assures everyone that none of Oman's pilgrims where injured when the cover fell to the ground and that no one was in danger.

"The pilgrims were warned beforehand and cautioned to stay in their tents," the statement added.

Al Hinai posted on his own social media saying, "From Arafat I would like to assure our loved ones in dear Oman that our pilgrims are safe after Allah's blessing of rain."

Mecca is currently experiencing strong winds and rain as pilgrims go through the rites of the Hajj pilgrimage.
