Oman Olympic Committee board holds meeting

MUSCAT: The Board of Directors of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) held its third meeting this year under the chairmanship of Sheikh Saif bin Hilal Al Hosni, OOC Board Vice-Chairman.
During the meeting, the Board reviewed a number of items on the agenda, the main topic of discussion was the resignation of Sheikh Khalid bin Muhammad Al Zubair, former OOC Chairman, and the assignment of Sheikh Saif bin Hilal Al Hosni to the position of acting OOC Board Chairman until the convening of the Extraordinary General Assembly and election of the chairman according to the OOC’s statutes.
The OOC Board members expressed their utmost appreciation to Sheikh Khalid Al Zubair for his strenuous efforts in cooperation with his colleagues, Board members, during his tenure as OOC Chairman. In this context, they cited the endeavours made to develop operational systems and activate events and various programmes under the theme “Sport for Development” while contributing to many other qualitative projects programmes within OOC, including the setting up of Oman Dispute Resolution and Arbitration for Sport Committee.
Among the big projects carried out is also the launching of sports marketing, through which OOC signed sponsorship agreements in support of the sports associations and committees with a number of major companies of the private sector. Sheikh Khalid also laid the foundation of the Omani Olympic Academy, whose strategy and statutes were duly approved, and effectively contributed to the consolidation of cooperation and partnership with various local and international organizations, which further strengthened OOC’s presence at the regional, continental and international levels, eventually materialising in the selection of Sheikh Khalid Al Zubair as member of the International Olympic Committee.
In accordance with the OOC’s Statutes, Sheikh Saif bin Hilal Al Hosni was approved as acting Chairman of Board of Directors of Oman Olympic Committee until the convening of the Extraordinary General Meeting where the OOC Board Chairman will be elected.
The meeting also approved of the preparations to be made to announce the date of convening the Extraordinary General Meeting to elect OOC Board Chairman as spelled out in the rules and regulations applicable within Oman Olympic Committee.
