Oman concludes participation in UN SDG meet

Muscat: The Sultanate concluded its participation at the UN High level Political forum of Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

HE Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry affirmed the Sultanate's keenness to achieve the goals and objectives set by the Sustainable Development agenda.

The Sultanate’s participation in the High-level Political Forum includes reviewing the first voluntary report on the sustainable development goals for 2030.

The report reflects the progress achieved by the Sultanate on the level of the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. It discusses the national strategies and plans adopted by the Sultanate to achieve these goals and identify the challenges and future plans for their achievement. It reviews the existing practices and initiatives contributing to the achievement of national objectives and priorities of sustainable development.

The Omani delegation headed by Oman’s deputy chairman of the Supreme Council for Planning includes representatives from various public and private academic institutions that will help make 2030 Sustainable Development Goals a reality on the ground.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are part of the UN’s efforts to ensure fair living, employment, healthcare and education standards for all, as well as protecting the Earth’s environment and safeguarding its land and marine life. They are split into 17 objectives that it is pushing for member nations to achieve, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which was adopted by all UN Member States in 2015.
