Oman cooler in 2018 compared to 2017

Muscat: Weather in Oman has been found to have been cooler in 2018 than it was the previous year, according to official government data.
The latest statistics issued by the National Statistics and Information Centre (NCSI) showed that the average temperature in the Sultanate in 2018 was 27.4 degrees Celsius, which was 3.5 per cent less than a year before.
The Climate Statistics Bulletin, which was issued by NCSI, revealed that South Al Batinah Governorate had the highest and lowest recorded average temperature in the Sultanate, with an average high of 38.4 degrees and an average low of 15.1 degrees Celsius.
South Al Batinah was followed by Al Buraimi, where the average high was 38 degrees, and average low was 18 degrees. Al Buraimi was followed by Al Dhahirah Governorate, which witnessed an average high of 38 degrees and an average low of 18.6 degrees.
Furthermore, Dhofar Governorate received the highest amount of rainfall in the Sultanate in 2018, whereas the lowest average was recorded in Al Buraimi Governorate, NCSI’s report revealed.
According to the NCSI bulletin, “Dhofar recorded the highest average of rainfall, which amounted to 183.2 millimetres, followed by South Al Batinah with 69 mm. Al Dakhiliyah was recorded as having an average of 42.2 mm, while the amount of rainfall in Al Wusta was 18.2 mm, 15.5 mm in North Al Sharqiyah, 15.3 mm in Muscat Governorate and 14.7 mm in Musandam Governorate.”
This week the wilayat of Ibri recorded the highest temperature in the Sultanate, meanwhile Jebel Shams was recorded as being the coolest.
According to Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA) reports, the wilyat of Ibri in Al Dhahirah Governorate recorded the highest temperature in the Sultanate on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, which was 46 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday the wilayat of Haima in Al Wusta Governorate recorded the highest temperature in the Sultanate, which was measured to be the same.
During the week the lowest temperature was recorded in the Jebel Shams mountain range as being between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday, and the Saiq Plateau recorded the lowest temperature on Tuesday.
Moreover, the wilayat of Ibri and the other neighbouring areas of the Hajar Mountains witnessed rain and occasional thundershowers over the first three days of the current week.
