50,000 new businesses registered in Oman in first quarter of 2019

Muscat: Nearly 50,000 businesses have been registered in Oman in the first quarter of 2019, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has said.

46,904 business activities were registered, with the statistics department of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry saying there were 7,544 activities by construction contractors registered during this period, which is the largest in the number of new businesses as compared with all other activities.

This was followed by export and import services with 6,491 new registrations. In third position came grocery stores with 4,825 new outlets registered during this period. With 4,806 activities registered, coffee shops which also serve snacks were in fourth and with 4,361 activities, coffee shops came fifth.

With 4,205, the sewing of Arab and non-Arab women’s dresses were the sixth-highest activity, and with 3,859, the activity of cutting, hairdressing and shaving was seventh. Refrigeration was the eighth highest activity with 3,779 registrations.

Restaurants were in ninth position with 3,590 and provision of supplies was tenth, with 3,544 registrations during this period.
