Shashi Tharoor pokes fun at British weather after rain delays World Cup semi final

Thiruvananthapuram: Indian Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor has made fun of the British weather after rain forced India and New Zealand to postpone their semi-final match.

Played at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening, New Zealand were batting at 211/5 after 46.1 overs, when heavy rain meant the game had to be halted and resumed on Wednesday.

“So rain drenches Old Trafford! British rain is like the Brexit process: it just goes on and on, and every time you think the sun might just break through, the mess starts all over again,” said Tharoor. “How on earth did the English invent a game that requires eight hours of sunshine a day?”

The game will resume at 9:30am GMT (2:30pm in Oman), with New Zealand picking up where they left off. The team that wins this semi-final will play in the final against either England or Australia on Sunday.
