OOC discusses preparations for future events

Muscat: The Omani Olympic Committee's (OOC) Planning and Follow-up Committee held its second meeting this year in which many topics of the 2019 executive programme were discussed.

The meeting also discussed the preparation of national teams for taking part in the upcoming events including the first World Beach Games which was shifted from San Diego in the US to Qatar and is to be held in October.

The committee congratulated Oman Handball Association for officially qualifying for the tournament in addition to national football team which is expected to qualify for the Asian Beach Soccer Championship as it came third in the tournament.

The national volleyball team is also likely to qualify while the qualification of national swimming team will be depend on the results of the World Open Water Championship this July.

The committee also discussed taking part in athletics and artistic gymnastics tournaments for Tokyo 2020.

The committee decided to recommend to the OOC Board of Directors to confirm the initial participation in the 6th Gulf Games for women's sport which will be held in Kuwait in October 2019.
