Hail Guadalajara – residents surprised as metre of hail covers city

Mexico City: Residents of Guadalajara city in Mexico, were surprised by more than a metre of hail covering nearly six suburbs in the city.

The city was blanketed in white hail, streets were blocked, cars were half buried and many even swept away in the river of hail. State governor Enrique Alfaro visited the various affected places in Guadalajara and said he had never seen such layers of hail.

"I was in the place to assess the situation and witnessed scenes I had never seen, and then we ask ourselves if climate change is real. These are never-before-seen natural phenomena," he said.

“We work in coordination with municipal authorities in the Rancho Blanco colony, where a lot of hail was recorded reaching up to one meter high in some parts, our officers work on the removal of the material that is on the streets,” he explained.

In coordination with the Mexican Army and municipal authorities of Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque, the Government of Jalisco is clearing the hail on public roads, as well as helping those citizens whose homes have been affected.
