Teenager Gauff knocks Venus out of Wimbledon

Muscat: Five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams has been knocked out in the first round of the tournament by a 15-year-old, Cori Gauff, nicknamed Coco.

The tournament's youngest ever qualifier, pulled off the stunning upset by beating Venus Williams 6-4, 6-4 in their first round clash.

Ironically, tennis ace Serena Williams had earlier compared the young Gauff with her sister, Venus Williams, in terms of athletic similarities.

Coco Gauff expressed her admiration for the tennis icon, Venus Williams

"She [Venus Williams] said congratulations. I told her thank you for everything that you did. I wouldn’t be here without you. I always wanted to tell her that."

This was one of the biggest opening-day upsets in the history of the tournament.

The American teenager, ranked 313 in the world said Venus congratulated her at the end of the match.
