Database to help place Omanis in right jobs

Muscat: A new training programme has seen the establishment of a database that contains the details of over 10,000 young job-seekers in Oman.
Called ‘Taqder’, the programme is focused towards developing the skills of young Omanis and preparing them for the job market and was held in collaboration with BP Oman.
“The participants have emphasised that ‘Taqder’ has played a major role in securing employment for them. We have received six training requests and five job offers from large, medium and small enterprises so far,” said Asma Al Suleimani, Taqder Programme Manager.
“It is our belief that the programme has earned the trust of young Omanis, as the number of registered job seekers for this edition has reached 906. As a result, we have now managed to establish a database that contains information on over 10,400 job seekers.”
During the course of the programme, participants went through various phases, including challenges, discussions and competitions.
Several field trips were organised, which contributed to the enhancement of participants’ teamwork, values, self- confidence and problem-solving skills. Through the programme, Youth Vision worked to change many common misconceptions of the young people regarding some jobs, the work environment, career progression and other misleading beliefs.
In addition, the training workshops and exercises developed by Youth Vision played a pivotal role in enhancing the participants’ skills and inspiring them to excel in the job market.
‘Taqder’ was devised after a comprehensive study of the requirements of the job market. The initiative entails a three-month period of training that allows participants to experience the work atmosphere.
“Strengthening the capabilities of our people and equipping them with the necessary skills will enable them to enter the job market with confidence” said Shamsa Al Rawahi, BP Oman’s Social Investment Programme Manager.
‘Taqder’ has achieved great results in its first year, and we would like to continue these achievements. We are proud to be aligned with the Sultanate’s priorities by inspiring growth throughout the national workforce.”
The closing ceremony was hosted by Dr Saeed bin Hamad Al Rubaie, Secretary General of the Education Council. Held at Sundus Rotana Hotel, the event saw the attendance of representatives from BP Oman as well as CEO s and senior executives of various companies.
At the ceremony, participants presented to senior executives the projects they had worked on during their internship with companies, enhancing their chances for employment.
The projects were in various fields including marketing, finance and administration to address the needs of the institutions where they were trained. They also shared their overall experience of working in small and medium sized enterprises and proved that the skills of job seekers are not confined to their studies only; their capabilities have the potential to expand further.
